As some of you already knew, I went to Chicago this past weekend for what may be the first get together involving two separate boards. A Spawn/Unreal mini "Mid West Gathering" featuring Jor, Drau and I. Then there was Aphadrome's "Botstock III" featuring the Chicago Antique Toy Show and the Robert Lesser Collection at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.

Of course, I didn't leave Jor's place empty handed. I got some monster guy thingy...

And a really cool Mez-Itz ED-209!

Thanks again, Jor!

Drau hooked me up with some trashed VCRs and a couple of plastic domes for future robot sculptures. Thanks, Ed! (Unfortunately, the domes are too big to fit Domo. The quest continues.)

At the toy show I did manage to nab a pretty cool 70s era Piston Robot.

He has internal pistons that light up and move up and down.

When I got home I found this ebay win waiting for me. A bare metal R-1.

R-1s (or Robot One) are a discontinued series of bump-n-go robots from Rocket USA. The bare metal R-1 has "embossed" details instead of painted on. I'm looking to complete my own "Gang of 5" with a blue one someday. Here's my 4 out of 5 so far. James Hetfield for scale.

neato!
I remember that piston one.
someone I knew had it, wasn't mine.

I remember seeing the fellow looking all sad after a mishap with his robot.
I asked what the matter was, and he said "piston broke".
I replied with "yeah, so am I".

so Andy, is the last of the 5 the most expensive?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nah, just a bit elusive. Haven't seen too many on ebay lately.

There is an exclusive bare metal R-1 that has "RUR 2000" embossed on the front that's getting a higher price. Also, both the grey and the red R-1s have black stripe (side panel divider is painted black) versions that are suppose to be exclusives but I couldn't care less about them.

I'm averaging about $20 a piece on 3 of the R-1s. The yellow Rescue One was a birthday gift and cost about $35 new.
